The War in Ukraine casts a shadow hundreds of kilometers to the west. Germany, unsure of its gas supplies and meeting its energy needs in the upcoming winter, decided to turn off the floodlights on its national monuments.

I went out, joined by Tanya—who has a bigger camera than mine—to capture this minor historical moment.
