A morning routine has three significant benefits.

First, you can say you’ve written no matter what the rest of the day throws at you. Let’s be honest; there’s always something that ruins your writing schedule, but having written allows you to take it in stride. The nagging “Oh no, but I needed to finish that chapter.” becomes, “But hey, at least I finished that chapter in the morning.”

Second, the brain is fantastically fresh and creative after a good night’s sleep. Take advantage. Write before touching your phone or checking your feeds. The distractions can wait. It’s just you and your book.

Third, routines boost your creativity. Once your brain learns to associate mornings with periods of increased creativity, it will help you slip into the creative mode more easily.

All you need to do is to shift your daily schedule an hour counterclockwise.
